The wedding reception is a time directly after the wedding for your friends and family to gather to offer well wishes for the bride and groom. It is also a time for celebration because the new couple is starting their lives together. There are many ways of having a wedding reception, but of course, one of the top considerations with any reception is the available budget since this will dictate where the reception is held, who will cater it, and the style of decorating.

Typically, the wedding reception is an event booked well into the future, so you have a chance to know what your budget allows for and then you can plan accordingly.

Depending on the main colours of your wedding, the reception can reflect the very same colours, which makes the entire event that much more special and appreciative for both you and your guests.
Think about the venue, again, this normally has to do with your budget, but most receptions are held in hotels, banqueting suites, restaurants, or single standing structures.

In addition, you will need to decide on the food that is catered, it can be very simple if you budget does not allow extravagant foods, or it can be an all-out bash with many different types of foods from a more expensive caterer.
In addition, the wedding reception is also, where the bride and groom cut the wedding cake, which is something that is also a planned event.

Wedding cakes come in all sizes, colours, styles, and prices; therefore, you will need to decide what you want and how much you can afford. Often the wedding cake is a very symbolic gesture of the couple, so you want to make sure you spend enough money on the cake to make it memorable for both the couple and the wedding guests.

The days of white frosting and yellow cake wedding cakes seem to be long gone. Wedding cakes have always been a major concern for brides with design and cake toppers and colors, flavors or shapes up for discussion, among many other things.
These days, though, with the success of baking reality shows like “Ace of Cakes” and “Charm City Cakes,” it seems anything goes — and it does! Now most major cities have master cake artists that create whatever you can imagine from the ridiculous to the sublime in practically any flavor and colors you can dream of: A fantasy castle, your favorite pastime together, the restaurant where you shared your first kiss – all of these, and more, are easily turned into wedding cakes that will surely wow your guests, if not shock them into quiet submission, while doing the “Hokey Pokey.”

A quick search of wedding cake images results in pictures of the sublime to the ridiculous. His and hers caricature wedding cakes, anyone? Apparently, at least one couple thought it was the right thing to do for their special day, and we are sure they are not the most outrageous example.
Beyond just your own personal preference there may be family traditions at your house. There might also be strong national or cultural leanings that you should be aware of considering. For example, in Mexico traditionally they serve “Mexican Wedding Cakes” which are not wedding cakes at all, but cookies that look like donuts. These Mexican wedding cakes are made with nuts – any kind of nut will do, such as pecans, walnuts, pine nuts, almonds, peeled hazelnuts, or any combination of nuts. Topped off with powdered sugar and they are stacked up on large plates to serve hungry wedding guests.

In some Asian countries they prefer non-dairy ingredients. In Japan some people go for lots of fake cakes at the receptions, hiding the real wedding cakes in the kitchen until it is time to eat.

In many European countries a wedding cake is not a wedding cake without an infusion of liquor. It seems every national preference includes plenty of whatever ingredient has come to symbolize abundance and prosperity. From marzipan to honey to dried fruits to caramel, almond paste, cream cheese or dates sweet, thick rich flavors seem to dominate the wedding cake palette. Bourbon, whisky and brandy are also frequent additions to the list of ingredients of many wedding cakes around the world.
Wedding cake designing has been around for hundreds of years. It’s an art, and like any art, the creation of any cake is an expression of the artist, and in this case, of the couple who are getting married. It’s the time in life when most people want to create an experience that will be the most fabulous and wonderful of all their memories, and the wedding cake in all its glory is a symbol that will live on and on in precious photos probably through many generations to come.

Wedding cakes enjoy a rich and varied heritage and date back to the Roman era when loaves of bread were used and guess what, broken over the newly married couple’s heads! Sometimes the groom broke the loaf over the bride’s head and so began their married life!

The history of the wedding cake is an extremely fascinating one, quite interesting to read actually. Initially cakes, biscuits and small scones apart from bread have all been used down the ages.

Around the 17th century the French bakers used wheat buns stacked one over the other and coated with icing; it was the start of what was to become a long standing tradition.

Earlier wedding cakes were white in color and so was the icing and decoration on the cake. White being the symbol of purity the wedding cake had to follow suit.

Today some of the old traditions have been replaced with newer and more modern ones. Wedding cakes today are extravaganzas of delight and sky’s the limit on the designs, shapes and decorations you can have on your wedding cake.

Wedding cakes are an integral part of the western marriage ceremony tradition, which requires the newly married couple to stand hand in hand in front of the cake and cut it while holding hands around the knife. The symbolization of the cake cutting ceremony is togetherness and unity; it is an essential part of the couple’s commitment to one another on this memorable day.

In order to decide on the kind of wedding cake you want for your wedding, you will need to consider a variety of factors including size, shape, color and flavor. Some of the more popular flavors include chocolate, sponge, cream and fruit cake. It is entirely up to the couple to decide what sort of cake they would like to have.

Wedding cakes vary in size and you can have a multi tiered or three tiered cake, which means a big cake for the base and then cakes of decreasing size stacked on top of it. Wedding cakes are a very important part of the overall décor for the occasion and needs to be given much thought and consideration.

Normally couples prefer to choose wedding cakes in colors that match the wedding colors. These colors are what the couple chooses for the bridesmaids’ dresses, wedding favors, decorations, etc.

There is no shortfall of caterers who specialize in wedding cakes and you can find what you are looking for through a little research. Talking to people is a good way to find a reliable caterer who does quality work. You need to take a look at samples of their work and even check testimonials.

You will need to make sure that your caterer will provide delivery of the wedding cake to the venue free of charge. Do not take anything for granted when planning a wedding.

In closing I would like to remind couples that wedding cakes are usually served as desert and the size of the cake should be proportionate to the number of guests at the celebration.
